Camposanto - The Secrets of the Stadtgottesacker (Town Cemetery)

Immerse yourself in the history of this more-than-500-years-old renaissance cemetery and find out what famous Halle citizens have found their last resting place here.
Georg Handel, Christian Thomasius and August Hermann Francke have something in common: They are all buried in Halle’s “Stadtgottesacker”. The Camposanto cemetery, built in Italian style in 1557, is considered a masterpiece of the Renaissance north of the Alps. City architect and sculptor Nickel Hoffmann, during the construction that lasted more than 30 years, built 94 arches, called Schwibbogen.

It’s truly astounding that … Cardinal Albrecht had it built the Market Church and worked in it, Luther preached in it and was laid in state here.
