Immerse yourself in the history of this more-than-500-years-old renaissance cemetery and find out what famous Halle citizens have found their last resting place here.
Georg Handel, Christian Thomasius and August Hermann Francke have something in common: They are all buried in Halle’s “Stadtgottesacker”. The Camposanto cemetery, built in Italian style in 1557, is considered a masterpiece of the Renaissance north of the Alps. City architect and sculptor Nickel Hoffmann, during the construction that lasted more than 30 years, built 94 arches, called Schwibbogen.
